Farm Chair - Muhu Chair

All the chairs in the exhibition have been brought from Muhu homes. This is an exceptional overview of the unique craftsmanship of Muhu chair makers.

This beauty and uniqueness will be explained by masters in the field. The discussions will cover how and why these fascinating chairs were made and how to care for them today.

Speakers:

  • Meelis Kihulane: A master and teacher of traditional woodworking, will talk about the methods of making farmhouse chairs and the types of wood used.

  • Toomas Zupping: A researcher of Estonian furniture history, will discuss the historical background of farmhouse furniture, styles, motifs, and influences.

  • Pille Suurna and Ahti Koitmäe: Furniture restorers, will speak about the preservation and maintenance of the chairs.
