Welcome to Muhu
With 8000 years of history, Muhu has been a small maritime land between two straits of the Baltic sea. Its traditions tell about the power which was already well-known to the merchants and warriors who sailed on the Silver-White Route. Goods, post packages, war parties, Vikings, thousands of fortune hunters, and pirates passed the island. The nature and traditions have not changed much in time. One proof of this is that tourism offers services still based on ancestors legacies. Muhu offers the chance to have a vacation on wild beaches, get to know centuries old fishing village traditions and see well preserved heritage landmarks, discover rare flowers and birds and enjoy the local folklore. Juhan Smuul’s literary works about the life on coastal area and humorous details about meeting guests from the mainland come to life in Muhu.
Muhu offers a prefect retreat on an island with villages and landscapes that have remained the same for hundreds of years. Guest can stay in old log houses and still hear greetings in other languages as well. Distances between the main attractions are not large and give a great opportunity to travel by bicycles, horses or boats. Muhu brings out the culture of coastal inhabitants from prehistoric times till today. All of our products are here to sustain the Estonian culture.
